Carnival Day

As promised in my previous post, here is an excerpt from ‘Carnival Day’, chapter two of my book, Departure and Other Stories.

‘Carnival Day’ was the last story that I started writing for the project and the fourth to be completed. It’s definitely the most light-hearted, and is one of my favourite pieces in the series.

  1. Hi, me again!
I’ve read the first few pages of ‘Departure’ on Amazon and was impressed enough to download the sample of Carnival Day – I look forward to reading it when I get a moment. I gather from your blog that your stories are 10,000 words or more. That’s quite a lot, but a good thing, I think. Most competitions and magazines are looking for around 1,500 words, which to me is just not enough to set the scene, build credible characters and develop a plot.

  2. Thank you. Yes, the stories are all between 9000 and 11000 words. It’s difficult to find competitions and magazines that accept stories over 6000 words and around 1500 words seems to be what many of them want. I’m hoping the experience of writing these (long) short stories will stand me in good stead when I attempt to write a novel.
